Outfield Bats Dominate Marlins
By: Mike Reisman

What's the point of getting a new bat when you have a team that can score seven runs a night? Tonight the bats lit up bright, especially for Raul Ibanez and Dominic Brown, who accounted for 5 of the Phillies 7 runs.
The game was one-sided from the get-go, the Phillies taking a two-run lead after the first inning. The Phillies would add two in the fifth, taking a 4-1 lead (the Marlins scored on a solo homer in the 2nd). Both teams scored another run quickly, the Marlins in the 5th and the Phillies in the 6th. Neither team would score again until the 9th when the Phillies added two more runs, on a Dom Brown fielders choice (which the fielder chose to get nobody out on), and then a Chooch single the next play. The game would end 7-2 in favor of the Phillies.
The game tonight unfortunately did no damage in the race for the NL East, as the Braves won easily over the Mets. What this did show, however, was that Kyle Kendrick is not a complete failure. He went six innings with five strikeouts. That's the good news. The bad news? It's the Marlins, so this good outing is almost expected. Tomorrow should be even easier, the starter for the Marlins being Chris Volstad, and the starter for Philly being Roy Oswalt. Not to mention Mike Sweeney coming from Seattle. Get out your brooms.
