BREAKING NEWS: Roy Oswalt Traded To Phillies
By: Mike Reisman
At about 8:30 AM on the east coast the first report of the trade between the
Phillies and the Astros came from Jayson Stark via Twitter. "Source
confirms that #Phillies & #Astros have
deal in place for Roy Oswalt if Oswalt approves the trade, which isn't certain. #trades".
That was the first report of the trade. Later other reports came
out of start saying that the Phillies would give the Astros J.A Happ and two
prospects, possibly, single-A star Jonathan Singleton being one of them.
All that the teams were waiting for was Roy Oswalt's O.K to waive his
no-trade clause.
The
O.K came at 1:00 PM Eastern Time but was not official until 3:05 PM. The final players given were indeed
J.A Happ and also, Anthony Gose, and Shortstop Jonathan Villar.. The Phillies received not
only Oswalt but in addition, $11mil.
I
have already made it clear that I think Oswalt would be the perfect man for the
job, and I stand by this choice. What makes this deal even sweeter is the
Astros sending money to help pay for Oswalt. Though I don't like
having to lose Happ, this was a good choice by Amaro and the rest of the front
office, as this proves they have not given up on the season and truly want to
win this year. This should give fans a confidence boost and hopefully put
more fans in the seats.
For
all our sakes, let’s hope Oswalt will be the right choice for the Phillies, and
that they don't end up regretting this trade.
